Targeted Solutions for Lasting Impact

Water and Sanitation

Vulnerable and marginalized communities in Nigeria face a persistent and critical crisis in accessing safe, adequate water and sanitation. These communities, often characterized by poverty, displacement, and social exclusion, are disproportionately affected by water scarcity, poor water quality, and inadequate sanitation facilities, leaving severe consequences on the health, livelihoods, and overall well-being of members of such communities.

Gender Equality

Gender inequality remains a challenge in Nigeria, limiting the opportunities and rights of women and girls across various sectors. While we have made progress in the implementation of some of the provisions of the National Gender Policy (2021-2026), cultural norms, discriminatory practices, and systemic barriers continue to restrict access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and political representation for women. These inequalities not only hinder the full potential of half the population but also impede the nation’s overall development. Through our efforts, we aim to advocate for an equitable society; ensuring that men and women have equal playing fields.

Food Security

At Initiative for the Alleviation of Vulnerable Persons from Poverty, we recognize that access to adequate, nutritious food is not just a basic human right, but also a foundation for overall well-being, economic stability, and social development. In a world where millions go to bed hungry, we are committed to addressing the root causes of food insecurity, particularly among vulnerable groups.

Climate Change

Climate change poses a significant threat to Nigeria, exacerbating existing socio-economic inequalities and disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. These communities, often comprising rural populations, women, and low-income families, are the least equipped to cope with the impacts of climate change, such as extreme weather conditions, gas flaring, food insecurity, and health challenges. Despite their vulnerability, they frequently lack access to essential resources, information and tools to effectively advocate for themselves. This disparity highlights the urgent need for targeted interventions that address the specific challenges faced by marginalized groups in the face of a changing climate. We aim to continue to support communities- especially the most marginalised who are disproportionately affected by climate change, to be part of the solution and influence decisions by world and local leaders.
